Knowledge base
A local knowledge base of docs and reference material the agent can retrieve from long-term.
The knowledge base is where you feed reference material (docs, notes, specs) to the agent. It retrieves and cites them when needed — no more pasting the same content every time.
Two tools
- knowledge_search — keyword search over the knowledge base. Parameters:
query(required),limit(optional, default 5, max 20). Returns matching entries with title, source tag, and matched snippet. - knowledge_add — the agent writes an entry into the knowledge base. New entries are drafts by default and only take effect after your review — the agent can't quietly promote unverified content to "trusted material".
Where it lives
| Level | Location | For |
|---|---|---|
| Project | .neox/knowledge/ in the project directory | Visible only within that project; good for sharing with the repository |
| User | ~/.neox/knowledge/ | Shared across projects; visible only to you |
How to use it
- Drop material into the appropriate knowledge directory, or have the agent add it via
knowledge_add - In later conversations the agent retrieves entries automatically when relevant, citing which ones it used
- Draft entries added by the agent: review them, then keep or delete
Difference from code indexing
- The code index indexes your code — for searching symbols and jumping to definitions
- The knowledge base stores material you provide — background knowledge for the agent to reference
