Memory
Say it once and it sticks — kept per project, and you can review or delete it any time in Settings.
Memory means you only have to say something once. Each project keeps its own, and new sessions bring it along automatically.
Making it remember
- Just say it — "Remember: this project uses vitest for tests", "Write commit messages in English from now on". Conventions, preferences and lessons learned get noted down.
- Project memory — run
/initand the agent reads the project and writes.neox/project.md, which every later conversation refers to. - Rule files — conventions that must always apply go in INSTRUCTIONS.md / NEOX.md.
What it remembers
| Category | Contents |
|---|---|
| Remembered | Things you asked it to remember, conventions you set, lessons learned |
| Recent work | Recent tasks and progress, so a new session can pick up where the last left off |
Viewing and deleting
Desktop — Settings → Agent → Memory. Delete entries one by one if they're wrong or no longer useful, or clear everything.
CLI — /memory opens a menu: stats, storage paths, an injection preview (what memory went into this turn), and clearing memory.
How it differs from resuming a session
Memory works across sessions. To continue one specific conversation, use the desktop session list, or /resume / neox -c in the CLI.
